Chesed
PUT SOME CHESED IN YOUR LIFE!
A great Rabbi once said, "A congregation is ultimately not judged by the way it interacts with its donors and machers, a congregation is ultimately judged by the way it treats its members in times of need." The Chesed Committee is the arm of our congregation that fulfills this great mitzvah.
This group volunteers in acts of chesed with efficiency and grace. They perform acts of lovingkindness for members of the CBS "community" who are in need or facing a crisis. They offer empathy as opposed to sympathy as well as having the ability to listen carefully to clues of what the real concerns are. The volunteers offer humor when appropriate as well as drive to and from medical appointments, make phone and home visits, cook, shop and offer to bring congregants to Shabbat services or special functions. Those we serve know "they are not alone."
Fran Floersheimer, committee chair person, emphasizes that, to be part of this committee, volunteers must have the ability to listen to what people are saying and not be judgmental.
