Discover the Joy of being Part of a Chavurah!
Meeting new friends at Congregation Brith Shalom can be very easy. Rather than trying to meet people in the standard ways, come join a small cohesive group of synagogue members who gather once a month for social, spiritual, and/or educational experiences. We call this a chavurah, a community within the CBS community, where you can celebrate life-cycle events and form close relationships that last a lifetime.
Strongly supported and encouraged by Rabbi Teller, chavurot of CBS members have flourished and endured. Some chavurot have been together for as long as 30 years! Others are new. A group might go to dinner, pray together in a crfeative fashion, or talk about an interesting contemporary Judaic topic. One representative to the Chavurah Council notes "I enjoy discussing Jewish subjects with knowledgeable people, which never happens in a purely social situation." Another notes, "None of our chavurah's members had family here, and being a member of a chavurah gave us the 'extended family' we were all looking for. It is wonderful to have the holidays and other events to celebrate together. We have gone through every life-cycle event together, the good and the bad, and our chavurah family is always there for us."
As you can see, the bonds that form among chavurah members are strong and meaningful. To learn more about joining or forming a chavurah, contact Chavurah Council Chair, Lisa Estes at listes@yahoo.com.
